
Surdej Earns SUNY Spring Athlete of the Year Honors For Track & Field

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Jonathan Surdej of the University at Buffalo Track & Field team was named the SUNY Spring Athlete of the Year for Division I track and field. The graduate student was one of 27 student-athletes honored for academic achievement and success in athletic competitions during the spring of 2024.
Surdej won his eighth consecutive conference shot put title at the outdoor championships this spring, also being named the MAC's Most Outstanding Field Performer and earning First Team All-MAC honors. The graduate student is the only track and field athlete in the conference's history to win eight straight individual MAC titles, the second athlete in conference history to win eight individual MAC titles and is an eight-time First Team All-MAC honoree. Surdej is also a two-time NCAA Outdoor Regional qualifier. He graduated as an electrical engineering major, maintaining a 3.13 cumulative grade point average.
More than 14,000 student-athletes compete at SUNY institutions representing 53 colleges and universities at the NCAA Division I, NCAA Division III/USCAA and NJCAA levels and are eligible for the awards.
