BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo Wrestling Head Coach Donnie Vinson has completed his coaching staff with the hiring of Andrew Dunn as an assistant coach. Dunn comes to UB from the University of North Carolina, where he served as the wrestling program's Director of Operations.
As Director of Operations at UNC for the 2023-24 season, Dunn assisted in areas such as on-campus recruiting, fundraising, logistics, and events coordination. The Tar Heels finished the season with Lachlan McNeil earning NCAA All-American status, five NCAA national qualifiers and a third-place team finish at the 2024 ACC Championships.
"Andrew's insights and leadership have exceeded his years," said Vinson. "He possesses a wisdom and understanding far beyond what one would expect. He also brings great energy and charisma, which will be a guiding force for our team."
Prior to North Carolina, Dunn served as an assistant coach and operations assistant with the California Regional Training Center and Cardinal Wrestling Club in Stanford, CA for one year.
The 2019 NCAA Division II National Champion at 285-pounds, Dunn was a three-time All-American wrestler at Kutztown University (PA), also qualifying for the national title bout in 2022. His efforts helped his team achieve their first NCAA top-10 finish and PSAC championship in program history.
During his time at Kutztown, Dunn was a Scholar All-American, two-time Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Athlete of the Year honoree and was named Kutztown's Male Athlete of the Year three times. He graduated from KU in 2020 with his undergraduate degree in business management and a master's degree in public administration in 2022.
Prior to Kutztown, Dunn began his collegiate career at Virginia Tech, qualifying for the 2018 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships where the Hokies finished 8th.
A native of Bethlehem, PA, he attended perennial power Bethlehem Catholic High School. At BECA, he was an undefeated PIAA AAA heavyweight state champion and high school All-American, ranked as high as #2 nationally as a senior in 2015. This capped off a 146-33 career that saw him win three PIAA state medals, three District XI championships and two PIAA Team state championships under legendary PIAA Coach Jeff Karam.
Dunn joins assistant Hunter Richard and volunteer assistant Ben Freeman on Vinson's staff.
