Ben Freeman is in his third season as a volunteer assistant.
He was a two-year letterwinner for the Bulls, wrestling at 141 in 2020-21 and 2021-22. He went 9-8 in duals and 4-5 in MAC duals during the 2021-22 campaign.
He graduated from UB in 2022 with a degree in psychology.
Before Buffalo, Freeman wrestled at 141 pounds for the University of Michigan for three seasons (2017-2020), with his last season cut short after sustaining an injury. He won the Edinboro Open and placed eighth at the Midlands Championships in 2018.
A native of Michigan, Freeman graduated from Walled Lake Central High School. He was named the 2017 Michigan recipient of the National Hall of Fame’s Dave Schultz High School Excellence Award. He had a career prep record of 167-0 and was only the fourth Division I Michigan wrestler in history to win four state titles. He was a five-time Fargo freestyle and greco All-American and a two-time finalist.
In 2017, he captured the 138-pound freestyle title at the Junior Nationals in Fargo, winning every match by tech fall or fall. Freeman also earned top four finishes at the UWW freestyle nationals in four straight years (2014-2017), including a 63kg runner-up finish at the U-20 level. He was ranked as the nation's No. 34 overall recruit by FloWrestling and No. 7-ranked 138-pound wrestler.
When he is not involved in his life-long passion for wrestling, Freeman enjoys fishing, playing the guitar and hanging out with his pet, Bud.
