Bulls Fall to Northern Illinois on Senior Night

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The 2023-24 Buffalo men's basketball season came to an end on Friday evening as the Bulls (4-27, 2-16 MAC) lost to the Northern Illinois Huskies (11-20, 5-13 MAC), 78-68.
Ryan Sabol led the Bulls with a career-high 22 points as the freshman went 6-for-8 from three-point range. Senior Jonnivius Smith finished with 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds. Shawn Fulcher finished with eight points, five assists and four rebounds. Isaiah Adams had three steals on the night.
Sabol was on fire from the beginning of the game as he gave the Bulls a 3-2 lead. He started off five-for-five from beyond the arc. The Bulls then trailed until they took a 22-20 lead at the 10:31 mark after a 7-0 run. Buffalo's lead reached 10 points after a Fulcher layup made it 32-22 with 6:41 to go in the first half. The Huskies battled back as they closed the half on a 16-5 run to take a 38-37 halftime lead.
The Bulls could not find rhythm in the second half as Northern Illinois never lost the lead. The Huskies' lead reached 16 points after six straight free throws to make it a 59-43 lead. The Bulls battled as they were able to cut the score to 66-61 as time dwindled with 3:15 to go. Buffalo couldn't get a stop and score as the Huskies maintained their lead the rest of the way.
Sabol finishes the season with a team-high 62 three-pointers.
