Bulls Shine Against Strong Competition At National Invitational Championship

OCALA, FL. – The University at Buffalo Swimming & Diving team sent four swimmers to the CSCAA National Invitational Championship this week, competing against schools from across the nation. Mia Naccarella had a strong week for the Bulls, earning two top five finishes and joining the all-time program ranks in two events.
DAY ONE
Naccarella opened the week for the Bulls in the 50-yard backstroke on Thursday, finishing fifth in the finals round with a time of 24.99. The senior placed seventh in the preliminary round in a field of 52 swimmers (25.24). Naccarella also competed in the 50-yard freestyle, placing 35 in the preliminary round with a time of 23.60.
The Bulls earned an eighth place in the 400 yard medley relay on Thursday, competing against 34 relay teams. The team of Naccarella, Elise McCaul, Nicole Aguilar and Amanda Jurgelon finished the event in 3:43.13.
DAY TWO
On day two, Naccarella earned her second top five finish of the weekend, taking third in the 200 yard freestyle finals with a time of 1:47.14. The time was a new personal best for the senior, ranking fifth all-time in program history. Naccarella placed second in a field of 44 swimmers in the preliminary round.
McCaul was next to compete for the Bulls on day two, setting a new personal best time of 4:27.72 in the 400 yard individual medley. The sophomore placed 40th in a field of 57 swimmers.
Aguilar participated in the preliminary round of the 100 yard butterfly, finishing with a time of 55.13. The sophomore placed 17th of 34 participants.
The Bulls closed out day two finishing 21st among the 40 teams in the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 1:42.94.
DAY THREE
Naccarella joined the all-time program ranks on Saturday again, finishing 11th in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 49.58. The senior's new personal best time ranks sixth all-time in program history. Naccarella placed 13th in the preliminary round with a time of 50.11.
Aguilar finished 28th of 36 swimmers in the prelims of the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:04.89. The sophomore's time was two seconds shy of her season best.
The Bulls closed out the weekend with the 400 yard freestyle relay, placing 18th of 34 teams with a time of 3:24.30.
