Bulls Battle the Georgia Southern Eagles in the MAC-Sun Belt Challenge

STATESBORO, Ga. – The University at Buffalo men's basketball team (2-20, 1-9 MAC) will play the Georgia Southern Eagles (5-19, 5-7 SBC) on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. The matchup between the Bulls and Eagles can be seen on ESPN+. Over on the Varsity Network App and on 1520 Buffalo/1280 Rochester AM, Josh Whetzel will be on the call.
LAST TIME OUT
The Bulls are coming off an 87-73 road loss to the Bowling Green Falcons on Tuesday evening. On the night, Ryan Sabol went 7-for-10 from three-point range to finish with a career-high 21 points. Shawn Fulcher finished with 19 points on the night, a point shy of his career high. Fulcher, Isaiah Adams and Jonnivius Smith each had six assists. Sy Chatman scored 11 points with Adams adding 10 for the Bulls. Bryson Wilson tied his career-high four points as he buried a three-pointer.
ABOUT THE SERIES
The Bulls lead all-time series against the Georgia Southern Eagles, 2-0. Their last meeting came nearly 30 years ago on Dec. 30, 1996, at the Toledo MVP Classic. Buffalo pulled out a 63-61 win. The first ever meeting was in Statesboro, Ga. on Dec. 27, 1971. Buffalo won on the road, 86-83.

• Ryan Sabol's seven made threes at Bowling Green on Tuesday evening tied him for 10th all-time in program history for made threes in a single game. Of those on the list, Sabol was the first freshman in program history to score seven threes in a game. The last Bull to make seven three-pointers in a game was Jayvon Graves on Feb. 21, 2020, at Kent State.
• Isaiah Adams is 87 points shy from scoring 1,000 career points. Over the last two seasons at Buffalo, he's totaled 586 points, good for 12.0 points per game.
• Isaiah Adams is averaging a team-high 3.6 assists on the season, good for fifth in the MAC. His 1.09 assists-to-turnover ratio is eighth in the MAC.
• Freshman Ryan Sabol leads the team with 45 made three-pointers on the season. He ranks seventh in the MAC in three-pointers made.
• Sy Chatman has scored in double figures in all but one game this season for the Bulls. His 17.8 points per game is good for sixth in the MAC and 94th in the NCAA. The fifth year forward has also averages 6.2 rebounds per game which is ninth in the MAC. During MAC play, Chatman's 17.9 points per game is sixth.
• Jonnivius Smith leads the team with 8.9 rebounds per game, which ranks 51st in the NCAA and third in the MAC behind Akron's Enrique Freeman (12.8). Smith's 9.1 rebounds per game in MAC play is third behind Rashaun Agee (Bowling Green, 10.6) and Enrique Freeman (Akron, 12.5).
• Saturday's game at Georgia Southern will be Buffalo's fourth game this season against a Sun Belt team.
• Historically the Bulls are 13-23 (.361) all-time against teams in the Sun Belt Conference.
• The Bulls have lost five straight games against Sun Belt opponents. Their last win against a current Sun Belt program was against Marshall on Feb. 23, 2005, by a score of 68-55. Marshall was a MAC program at the time.
