Bulls Prepare For MACs With Strong Performance at Cornell

ITHACA, NY – Members of the University at Buffalo Track and Field team competed in Cornell's Marc Deneault Invitational on Saturday, highlighted by event wins and podium finishes in their final preparations for next weekend's Mid-American Conference Championships.
The Bulls were strong in throwing events, winning three of the four on the day. Jonathan Surdej won the men's shot put with a mark of 17.34 meters, as Caleb Nickens also took the weight throw with a mark of 19.20 meters. On the women's side, Imahni Sinclair won the women's weight throw, with a best on the day of 16.94 meters.
On the track, the Bulls had several podium finishes. The women's mile highlighted the track events for the Bulls, with sophomore Bronagh Cassidy winning the event with a personal best time of 5:04.86. Allison Newton took third in the mile too with a time of 5:08.70, as Chloe Freeland (5:14.27), Anna Recktenwalt (5:21.37) and Ishil Kirkhan (5:32.33) all ran personal best times.
Aleksandra Szulska placed second in the women's 3000 meter with a time of 9:54.97. Freshman teammates Reese Wilber (10:23.09) and Kaitlyn Edinger (10.42.15) also ran new personal bests in the 3000 meter.
The highlights continued for the Bulls also Uma Bhattacharjee (25.69) and Stephney Pryce (26.05) both ran personal best marks in the 200 meter. Jason Colindres ran a season's best in the men's 200 meter with a time of 22.76 and in the 400 meter with a time of 50.51.
Transfer student Angela Forster made her debut with the Bulls in a memorable way, running a personal best in the 60 meter hurdles placing sixth in the finals (8.98). Forster also took second in the high jump with a mark of 1.68 meters, tying the tenth best jump in UB indoor history.

"This meet served as a tune-up before MAC Championships for many of the athletes," said Head Coach Vicki Mitchell. "With less than one week to the MAC Championships, the focus is on staying healthy and taking the steps needed to be prepared to compete at Eastern Michigan University."
MAC Championships begin next Friday, February 23rd and conclude on Saturday, February 24th.
