Bulls To Compete In Zippy Invite This Thursday Through Sunday
12/3/2024 10:10:00 AM | Swimming and Diving
BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's swimming and diving team is set to compete at Akron University this week in the annual Zippy Invitational. The Bulls last competed at the multi-team meet in 2022, placing second of seven teams. This year's invitational at Akron will take place Thursday through Sunday, with preliminary rounds each morning and the finals in the evening.
The Bulls enter the mid-season meet following a month-long hiatus from competition, training for the back half of their schedule. Buffalo competed three times in October and early November, hosting Cornell and Eastern Michigan, and on the road at Marshall.
Throughout the three meets so far this season, the Bulls have had contributions from both upperclassmen and lowerclassmen in the pool and in the diving well.
In the pool, Olympic trials qualifier and 2023-24 All-MAC Second Team selection Mia Naccarella has won six individual events for the Bulls and helped the team to four more relay event wins. Freshman Isabella Forsman has also been strong, taking four individual events for the Bulls through the first three meets and participating in two relay event wins.
Grace Rider and Ava Pauly have become a strong duo in the breaststroke events for Buffalo. The two have combined for three second and third-place finishes in breaststroke events this season, earning 14 points for Buffalo against Eastern Michigan as a duo.
The beginning of Jillian Strine's sophomore campaign has been highlighted by personal records and wins in freestyle events. Strine opened her season with personal records in the 50-yard freestyle (24.61) and the 100-yard freestyle (54.08) against Cornell. The sophomore doubled back to win the 50-yard freestyle against Eastern Michigan with another personal best performance of 24.34.
In the diving well, 2023-24 MAC Diver of the Year Marialis Kwak has won all six competitions she's competed in. The senior qualified for the NCAA Zone Diving Championships in the Bulls' first meet of the season, with a score of 306.38 in the one-meter and a score of 300.15 in the three-meter.
2023-24 MAC Freshman Diver of the Year Sophie Meuwissen placed second to Kwak in the one-meter (261.90) and three-meter (281.18) against Cornell. Meuwissen's three-meter score of 281.18 also qualified her for the NCAA Zone Diving Championships in the spring.
Junior Mallory Hanna also placed second to Kwak on the road at Marshall in the three-meter event, earning a new personal best score of 280.80.
The Bulls look to build off of their early season success in the pool this week. All information regarding this week's meet including live results and live stream links can be accessed here. A complete event list for this weekend's meet is listed below.
