BUFFALO, NY – It was a tough test for the University at Buffalo wrestling team as they hosted two nationally-ranked programs at Alumni Arena on Sunday. The Bulls lost to #29 Purdue, 45-0, in the opener and followed with a 37-2 loss to # 28 Army.
Both Purdue and Army had nationally-ranked wrestlers up and down their rosters as Purdue had five and Army had eight in the national rankings against a young UB squad.
After being shut out by Purdue, the Bulls fared better against Army.
Marcus Petite got a takedown in the second and the third period to earn an 8-2 decision over Cole Karpinski at 184.
The Bulls had chances to win other matches in the dual but fell just short.
Sam Ewing had an early 5-0 lead against #28 Trae McDaniel in the 149 match but couldn't hold on and fell 11-6.
At 157, Kaleb Burgess got a takedown in the closing seconds to force overtime against Dakota Morris. However, Morris got a takedown in OT to earn the sudden victory.
The Bulls will be back in action at Cornell on Saturday.
