BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo kicker Alex McNulty was named to the Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award Watch List on Wednesday, presented annually to the best kicker in college football. He was a semifinalist for the award last season.
McNulty, the 2022 Mid-American Conference Special Teams Player of the Year, is one of 24 kickers on the watch list and one of only two from the MAC. Now a graduate student, he set UB's program record for field goals in a season with 24 in 2022. That mark is also the most by any kicker returning to FBS this year. 18 of his field goals came from at least 30 yards, also the most by a returning kicker.
McNulty is UB's career record holder in field goals (49), extra points (163) and points scored (310).
The 32nd Annual Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award, presented by the Orange Bowl, recognizes the three finalists during a celebration in Palm Beach County, culminating with a gala awards banquet on December 4th in West Palm Beach, Florida.
The Award is named for National Football League Hall of Fame kicker Lou "The Toe" Groza, who played 21 seasons with the Cleveland Browns. Groza won four NFL championships with Cleveland and was named NFL Player of the Year in 1954. Although an All-Pro offensive lineman as well, Groza ushered in the notion that there should be a place on an NFL roster for a kicker.
