BUFFALO, NY - University at Buffalo Director of Track and Field/Cross Country Vicki Mitchell has announced the hiring of assistant coach Jhad Jones, who joins the staff for the 2023-24 season. Jones will be in charge of sprints, hurdles, and relays for the men's and women's programs.
Jones comes to Buffalo from Southern Arkansas University where he served as the assistant coach for sprints, hurdles, and jumps for two seasons. Under his tutelage, Jones' athletes set new school records and reached NCAA provisional qualifying standards.
Prior to Southern Arkansas, Jones led the sprinters and hurdlers at Cal Lutheran University to two NCAA qualifiers, 1 All-American, and numerous Top-10 Marks over a two-year span.
At the Junior College level, Jones coached Moorpark College of California from 2016–2021, overseeing the sprinters and hurdlers, and the strength and conditioning program for the team. He led his athletes to numerous personal best marks, school records, and All-Americans honors.
Prior to his collegiate coaching career, Jones coached 10 years at North Hollywood High School developing the sprinters, hurdlers, and jumpers. Each stop in his coaching career has resulted in his student-athletes setting program records, earning titles, and succeeding in the classroom.
"We are excited to welcome Coach Jones to the Bulls program," said Mitchell. "He brings in over 18 years of experience in coaching and developing successful student-athletes and I know he will help our student-athletes do the same."
A native of California, Jones earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis on Sports Studies from California State University, Northridge. He holds USATF Level 1 certification, as well as Level 2 in Jumps and Level 2 in Sprints/Hurdles/Relays.
