Bobcats Top Bulls in Athens

ATHENS, Ohio – The University at Buffalo men's basketball team (12-14, 6-7 MAC) stumbled to the Ohio Bobcats (15-11, 7-6 MAC) on Tuesday evening, 85-61. Jonnivius Smith scored 14 points, tying his career high, and grabbed eight rebounds. Curtis Jones also scored 14 points as Isaiah Adams finished with 10 points. LaQuill Hardnett set a career-high four steals on the night.
The offense in the first half for both teams was limited as the halftime score was 34-22 in favor of the Bobcats. The teams combined to shoot 19-for-63 (30.2%) from the floor at the half. Buffalo was just 8-for-29 (27.6%) from the floor and 1-for-11 (9.1%) from three-point range. Off 13 first half Buffalo fouls, the Bobcats went 10-for-15 from the free throw line. Smith led all scorers with 10 first half points. He was 4-of-5 from the floor and 2-for-2 from the charity stripe.
The Bulls' struggles carried in to the second half as they shot 14-for-35 (40.0%) from the floor and 2-for-14 (14.3%) from beyond the arc. The Bobcats were hot as they shot over 60% in the half, finishing the night 30-for-64 (46.9%). Hardnett was 4-for-7 in the half, scoring all nine of his points in the final 20 minutes of action.
The Bulls finished with five blocks on the night, bringing their season total to 86.
Buffalo is back in action on Saturday at Akron for a 7 p.m. tip. The game can be streamed on ESPN3.
