BOSTON, Mass. – The University at Buffalo Track & Field team had three student-athletes participate in Boston University's Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener on Saturday, competing against top programs from all over the nation, with two runners setting NCAA records.
Ryan Buzby started the season strong for the Bulls, setting a new school record in the 5000m run, with a time of 13:57.4. Buzby's time surpasses his former school record by 21 seconds, set at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational at Boston University just last season. The fifth-year is the only runner in school history to run a sub 14 minute time. Buzby ranked 88th among all 208 runners in the 5000m on Saturday.
Aleksandra Szulska also got out to a strong start on the women's side. The freshman completed the 3000m event with a time of 9:42.03, good for the fifth fastest time in program history, and the fastest time by any Buffalo women in the event since 2018. Szulska's time ranked 60th across the field of 132 total runners.
Senior Evan Hilbert competed in the men's 3000m, placing 86th out of 103 total runners, with a time of 8:27.29. Hilbert's new personal best time ranks just outside of Buffalo's top-ten times in program history, falling short of the tenth ranked 3000m time by under two seconds.

The Bulls will look to build off of their strong season opening performances following the winter break when the team competes at Kent State's Judd Logan Memorial on Saturday, January 13th.
