Bulls Look for Big 4 Sweep on Wednesday

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's basketball team looks to make it a Big 4 sweep as they welcome St. Bonaventure to Alumni Arena for an afternoon matinee on Wednesday at 1pm.
The Bulls are 2-0 against Big 4 opponents this season with wins over Canisius and Niagara.
The game will be streamed on ESPN+ with Matt Mattia (play-by-play) and Jared Zeidman (color) announcing and can be heard on the radio on 1400 AM or on the Varsity Network with Jack Kreuzer on the call.
This is the 34th overall meeting between Buffalo and St. Bonaventure with the Bonnies owning a narrow 18-15 series advantage. The Bulls have won seven of the past eight meetings, most recently a 58-49 win at the Reilly Center last season.
Buffalo put forth a phenomenal defensive effort as they defeated the Stonehill Skyhawks 60-39 at Alumni Arena on Friday night. Redshirt senior guard Chellia Watson led all scorers with 19 points to go with seven rebounds and four assists. Sophomore Hattie Ogden scored in double figures for the second straight game with 12 points and five rebounds.
The Bulls are balanced offensively with four players averaging in double figures, led by Watson at 18.5 points, 5.8 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game. Freshman Kirsten Lewis-Williams (11.3 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 2.5 apg), Ogden (10.8 ppg, 5.8 rpg) and senior Rana Elhusseini (10.3 ppg, 2.8 apg) have also made been a consistent scoring threat for UB to start the year. As a team, Buffalo leads the MAC in in scoring defense (58.3) and field goal defense (.323) and is ranked in the top three in scoring margin (+9.0), field goal percentage (.412), 3FG defense (.244), rebounds per game (39.0) and defensive rebounds per game (26.8).
The St. Bonaventure Bonnies are 1-3 after defeating/falling to Binghamton 73-65 on Saturday. The Bonnies are led offensively by senior guard Dani Haskell who is averaging 16.7 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. Haskell, a Western New York native, transferred to SBU from Canisius. Nadechka Laccen is averaging just shy of a double-double with 10.0 ppg and 9.0 rpg and Tianna Johnson (12.3 ppg, 5.0 rpg) is also averaging in double figures. St. Bonaventure is one of two Atlantic 10 teams without a true freshman on the roster and one of six teams in the NCAA not sporting a first-year player on the squad.
Through the first four games, the Bonnies are averaging 37.3 rebounds per game. It has been a collective effort on the glass with seven players averaging 4.0 rebounds per game while four players are averaging 5.0 or more rebounds per contest. Jim Crowley is in his 17th season overall at the helm of the Bonnies. The all-time leader in wins, returned to the Bonnies sideline for the 2023-24 season after spending the previous seven seasons at Providence.
