Bulls Host Niagara in Big 4 Battle on Tuesday

BUFFALO, NY β The University at Buffalo women's basketball team returns home to Alumni Arena to take on Big 4 rival Niagara on Tuesday night at 6pm. The Bulls are 1-0 against Big 4 opponents this season after defeating Canisius in the home opener last week.
The game will be streamed on ESPN+ with Howard Simon (play-by-play) and Matt Mattia (color) announcing and can be heard on the radio on 1520 AM or on the Varsity Network with Jack Kreuzer on the call.
This is the 46th overall meeting between Buffalo and Niagara with the Bulls owning a 26-19 series advantage. UB defeated the Purple Eagles 63-58 at the Gallagher Center last season.
Buffalo fell at Old Dominion 59-48 in the inaugural MAC-SBC Challenge on Saturday. Senior Rana Elhusseini led UB with 13 points while freshman Kirsten Lewis-Wiliams scored in double figures for the second straight game with 11 points. Three Bulls are averaging in double figures, led by redshirt senior guard Chellia Watson at 15.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game. Lewis-Williams (13.5 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 2.4 apg) and Rana Elhusseini (12.5 ppg, 4.5 rpg) have also made an impact to start the year.
The Niagara Purple Eagles are 1-1 after falling to Duquesne 82-79 on Saturday. Four Purple Eagles are averaging in double figures through two games, led by Destiny Strother at 16.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. Chardonnay Hartley (14.5 ppg, 4.5 apg), Aaliyah Parker (13.0 ppg, 5.0 rpg) and Lore Porter (11.0 ppg) are also averaging in double figures.
For the first time in program history, Niagara was picked first in the preseason MAAC poll. Niagara went 16-4 in MAAC play, advanced to the MAAC Semifinals and earned a berth in the WNIT, for the first time in the program's Division I era. Niagara returns 10 student-athletes from last season who accounted for 71.9% of the teams scoring. Jada Pierce is in her ninth season at the helm of the Purple Eagles. She is one of 20 coaches to be named to the Kathy Delaney-Smith Mid-Major Coach of the Year Preseason Watch List.
