TOLEDO, OH – The University at Buffalo football lost at Toledo, 31-13, at the Glass Bowl on Tuesday night. The loss snapped the Bulls' two-game road winning streak.
Toledo, entering the game riding a seven-game winning streak, wasted little time getting on the scoreboard as the Rockets returned the opening kickoff 97 yards for a touchdown. Then, on their next, possession the Rockets scored on a long touchdown run to quickly take a 14-0 lead.
Devin Grant captured his fifth interception of the season and, with the aid of a penalty, was able to return it all the way down to the Toledo 12-yard line. Three plays later, Cole Snyder found Cole Harrity in the corner of the endzone for a four-yard touchdown.
Despite the final score, it was a strong showing by the Bulls defense. Buffalo forced four Toledo turnovers in the game. Max Michel forced two fumbles and Red Murdock forced one as well. Grant recovered two of the fumbles and added a blocked punt to go along with his interception.
The Bulls linebacker trio of Murdock, Joe Andreesen and Dion Crawford combined for 22 tackles and two tackles for loss.
After allowing a 72-yard touchdown run early in the game, the UB defense limited the Rockets, who rank third in the nation in rushing, to just 107 yards the rest of the game.
Jacqez Barksdale scored the Bulls second touchdown of the game on a one-yard run late in the third quarter.
Ron Cook, Jr. paced the offense with a season-high 97 yards rushing, while averaging 5.7 yards per carry.
The Bulls will be back in action next Tuesday night when they host Ohio at UB Stadium.
