
UB Student-Athletes Post Third-Highest GPA in Department History for Spring Semester

BUFFALO, NY – It was another successful semester in the classroom for UB student-athletes as they posted a 3.252 grade point average for the spring semester – the third-highest GPA in department history. In addition, two different teams recorded program-high GPAs.
Women's tennis claimed the top spot for the fall semester with a 3.816 team grade point average. Men's cross country led all men's teams with a 3.501 GPA. Teams that posted the highest GPA in program history included soccer (3.720) and swimming and diving (3.625).
Men's basketball had the most improved semester from the fall, increasing their GPA by 0.712 points, followed by volleyball (+0.362) and swimming and diving (+0.124).
Overall, 10 teams had a 3.0 grade point average or better – women's tennis (3.816), soccer (3.720), swimming and diving (3.625), volleyball (3.524), softball (3.510), men's cross country (3.556), women's cross country (3.456), men's track and field (3.415), women's track and field (3.363) and men's tennis (3.304).
The department had 51 student-athletes with perfect 4.0 GPAs and 163 posted a 3.5 or better. In all, 241 student-athletes (69 percent) reached the 3.0 plateau.
"Our student-athletes continue to amaze in the classroom," Associate Athletic Director for Academic Affairs Aaron Stang said. "Our coaches and staff understand the time commitment and work that goes into being a student-athlete behind the scenes and are so proud of our students and their commitment to academics. Our student-athletes have now earned the five highest GPAs in UB Athletics history in the last five semesters and continue to show that they are far more than just athletes. I'd also like to thank our Athlete Academic Affairs staff, coaches, and faculty members who continue to do everything they can to support our student-athletes in achieving their academic goals."
