
Four Bulls Qualify for NCAA East Preliminary

INDIANAPOLIS – The NCAA Outdoor Track & Field East Regional Championship qualifiers were announced on Thursday evening. Four Bulls qualified for the post-season events. The four qualifiers from the University at Buffalo include Jonathan Surdej, Molly McCreedy, Kaylah Britt, and Zaria Fuller. The NCAA First Round Championships held at Indiana University from May 25-28. For each individual event contested at the NCAA First Round Sites of the Championships, the top-48 declared student-athletes, per gender in each event, are selected into the championships.
MAC shot put champion Jonathan Surdej advances as the No. 39 seed. His winning throw at the 2022 Outdoor MAC Championships of 17.82-meters/58'-05.75" punched his ticket to the championships. A sophomore, this is Surdej's second time at the NCAA First Round. In 2021 he placed 39th at the NCAA East Prelims. The men's shot put competition is Wednesday, May 25 at 7 p.m.
Three UB women have made their first qualification for the NCAA Championships. Junior Molly McCreedy advances in the women's shot put. Her seed of 15.76-meters/51'-08.50" achieved at the UB Team Invitational ranks her 36th in the field. The MAC, arguably of the strongest throwing conferences in the country has a total of five women represented in the shot put including MAC Champion from Kent State Gabby Bailey (17.02-meters/55'-10.25"), BGSU's Zaresha Neal (16.90-meters/55'-05.50"), Kent Stats's Grace Tennant (16.44-meters/53'-11.25"), and Kadian Clarke of Eastern Michigan (15.63-meters/51'-03.50"). The women's shot put competition is Friday, May 27 at 7 p.m.
Two other first time NCAA qualifiers for the Bulls include sophomore Kaylah Britt in the women's triple jump and sophomore Zaria Fuller in the women's high jump. Britt comes into the NCAA meet ranked 46th. Her mark of 12.64-meters/41'-03.25" ranks second all-time for UB. She has won 3-of-her-5 triple jump competitions this outdoor season including her personal best mark and win at the Ashland Alumni Open (41'-03.25"). Fuller enters the high jump competition as the 36th seed. Her outstanding season includes her silver medal position at the MAC Championships with her jump of 1.76-meters/5'-09.25". This year, Fuller has improved her personal best mark by 6". She ranks third all-time for UB in the high jump behind school record holder Emma Siuciak and NCAA All-American Shelly Hamilton. The women's high jump and triple jump will be contested Saturday, May 28 at 2:30 p.m. and 6 p.m., respectively.
The top 12 individuals in each event contested will advance to the NCAA Final Championships held at the University of Oregon June 8-11.
