BOWLING GREEN, OH – The University at Buffalo softball team came up just short in a marathon game as they fell at Bowling Green 2-1 in the series opener on Saturday afternoon.

The Falcons struck first as they scored on an RBI single in the bottom of the first to take an early 1-0 lead.
The Bulls loaded the bases in the top of the second but were unable to plate a run. The UB defense came up big in the bottom of the inning as they turned an inning-ending double play.
While the UB offense continued to struggle, the defense continued to flash the leather in the bottom of the fifth as they turned their second double play of the game to keep it a one run ball game.
The Bulls had the top of the order at the plate needing a rally in the bottom of the seventh and Brianna Castro delivered as she doubled down the right field line to score Anna Aguon to tie the game at one and send the game to extra innings.
The game remained tied until the bottom of the 14th inning when the Falcons took advantage of a pair of UB errors to score the game-winning run.
Junior Alexis Lucyshyn pitched well in the circle as she gave up just one earned run and struck out nine batters while settin the program's single-game record with 14 innings pitched besting the previous mark of 12 set by Terese Diaz in 2010.
Buffalo concludes the series against the Falcons with a doubleheader on Sunday beginning at 12pm.
