CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference announced this morning this week's Scholar Athletes of the Week. Senior Brandon Burke has been named this week's MAC Men's Scholar Athlete of the Week.
The Rochester, N.Y. native has a 3.834 GPA as he intends on majoring in Aerospace Engineering.
Burke opened the outdoor track and field season with an impressive performance in the high jump, winning the Raleigh Relays, one of the toughest meets in the nation. He finished first in a group of 35 competitors, finishing as just one of two athletes to clear 2.15-meters (7'-00.50"). He was joined by Shaun Miller Jr. of Ohio State to clear that height.
The Scholar Athlete of the Week Award is presented to a MAC male and/or female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during that week's competition. An institution can nominate up to one male and one female student-athlete per week in any of that current season's sports. The winners are selected by a representative of the MAC's Faculty Athletics Representatives (FARs).
The Bulls will have a busy weekend ahead as they'll be split at the Colonial Relays hosted by William and Mary, as well as the SUNY Geneseo Early Season Invite.
