Bulls Earn Six Medals at MAC Championships

KENT, Ohio – The University at Buffalo track and field team wrapped up the 2022 Mid-American Conference Indoor Championships on Saturday evening. The men's team finished fourth with a total of 64 points as the women's team finished with 24 points, good for 10th place.
There are three guarantees in life: death, taxes, and UB winning the men's shot put at the MAC Championships. Jonathan Surdej won back-to-back MAC indoor titles to go along with his 2021 outdoor title. The Bulls have won 11 of the last 14 MAC indoor shot put titles. The Lancaster, N.Y. native won with a toss of 17.64-meters/57'-10.50" which now ranks tied for seventh with Corey Knox.
Also winning back-to-back indoor titles was Brandon Burke in the high jump. Burke jumped a height of 2.20-meters/7'-02.50" edging out second place by 3.75-inches. In the women's high jump, Zaria Fuller finished tied for fifth at a height of 1.66-meters/5'-05.25".
Antoinette Miller finished sixth in the 60-meter dash finals in 7.67-seconds. On the men's side, Jermaine Ewers finished in fifth place in 6.93-seconds setting a new season-best.
In his first MAC Championships, Johann Matzal finished fifth overall in the 800-meter run in 1:53.71. Anya Schmitt competed in the 5,000-meter run and finished in 17:31.99, good for 14th overall.
Christina Wende finished sixth in the long jump with a distance of 5.89-meters/19'-04.00". In the triple jump she finished in fourth (12.44-meters/40'-09.75") just missing the podium by 2.5-inches.
Thomas Flannery earned his second medal of the championships as he won the bronze medal in the 3,000-meter run. Flannery crossed the line in 8:23.53 as first, second, and third all finished within 3-seconds of one another.
Molly McCreedy and Rachel Donner helped the Bulls gain points in the shot put. McCreedy finished fifth (15.14-meters/49'-08.25") as Donner claimed eighth (14.48-meters/47'-06.25").
