
Swim and Dive Finish in Second Place at MAC Championships

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The University at Buffalo women's swimming and diving team (5-0, 4-0 MAC) finished in second place at the Mid-American Conference Championships. The Bulls finished with 17 medals, eight All-MAC honorees, and with three major all-conference honors.
Freshman Abbey Malmstrom and junior Maddy McDonough reached the championship 200 backstroke. Malmstrom finished fifth in 1:58.30 as her teammate finished just behind for sixth in 1:58.92. Mia Naccarella won the consolation final in 1:58.45.
Toni Naccarella continued to add to her medal collection as she finished third in the 100 freestyle in 49.12-seconds. Sawyer Bosley continued to impress as she seemed like a veteran at the championships. She finished sixth in the 100 freestyle in 49.83-seconds. Jillian Lawton claimed eighth place in 50.25-seconds.
Katie Pollock finished fifth in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:15.09. Taeghen Brezovski qualified for the consolation final and finished 12th overall in 2:17.94.
In the 200 butterfly, Clarice Fisher claimed fifth place in 1:59.89. Freshman Amanda Neeb won the consolation finals in 2:01.44.
In the diving well, Victoria Franz won her second gold medal of the MAC Championships. She swept the diving events and is the second Bull in program history to do so, joining Meili Carpenter at the 2010 MAC Championships. Freshman Marialis Kwak finished in seventh place with a score of 244.20. Patricia Arceri placed 12th with 277.20 points.
To close out the championships was the 400 freestyle relay. Sawyer Bosley, Jillian Lawton, Ellie Duley, and Toni Naccarella claimed the silver medal in 3:17.04, edged out by the MAC Champion Akron Zips by half a second.
MAC HONORS
Earning Second Team All-MAC honors was Mia Naccarella, Marij van der Mast, and Clarice Fisher. Five Bulls earned First Team All-MAC honors: Toni Naccarella, Victoria Franz, Jillian Lawton, Sawyer Bosley, and Katie Pollock. By no surprise, Victoria Franz won MAC Diver of the Year joining Meili Carpenter as the only Bulls to achieve the honor. The Bulls have now won four consecutive MAC Freshman Diver of the Year honors as Marialis Kwak takes the honor. Diving Coach Russ Dekker won MAC Diving Coach of the Year honors. Dekker has now achieved this honor three times in his career; 2014 (Ohio), 2021, and 2022.
