Bulls Welcome Mercyhurst To Alumni Arena for Home Opener on Tuesday

BUFFALO, NY – After picking up its first win of the 2022-23 season the University at Buffalo women's basketball team returns to Alumni Arena for a clash with the Mercyhurst Lakers in the home opener on Tuesday night.
The game will be streamed on ESPN+ with Paul Peck (play-by-play) and Matt Mattia (color) announcing and can be heard on the radio on ESPN 1520AM or on the Varsity Network with Jack Kruezer on the call.
The Bulls and Lakers last played on November 25, 2020 when UB defeated Mercyhurst 85-49 in an exhibition contest at Alumni Arena.
The Bulls defeated Stonehill 62-56 for their first win of the season on Monday at Merkert Gymnasium. Three Bulls scored in double figures led by fifth year guard Jazmine Young who scored a career-high 16 points. Also scoring in double figures were Re'Shawna Stone who scored 14 points to go with eight rebounds and three assists and Zakiyah Winfield who recorded her second straight double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
The Mercyhurst Lakers are 1-2 overall after defeating Tiffin University 70-49 the last time out. Their Saturday contest at Roberts Wesleyan was postponed until November 29 due to inclement weather. Sophomore Danielle Grim leads the Lakers in scoring at 17.5 points per game. Jayde Boyd (16.5 ppg) and Julia Buchman (11.7 ppg) are also averaging double figures. Mercyhurst finished the 2021-22 season with a 9-19 overall record. They return Grace Centrulla and Boyd who were the top two scorers a year ago and were also named to All-PSAC teams. Also returning is Nicolette Arnold who shot 43.8% from three-point range last season. Brooklyn Kohlheim is in her fourth season at the helm of the Lakers. She has more than 14 years of playing and coaching experience at the Division I and Division II levels.
Up next, Buffalo will conclude its homestand against Drexel on Sunday, November 27 at 12pm. It is the first game of a doubleheader with the UB men who will host crosstown rival Canisius at 2:30pm.
