
Bulls Take Down Hofstra for Fourth Straight Win

HEMPSTEAD, NY – The University at Buffalo wrestling team won the first seven matches in their dual against Hofstra and never looked back, defeating the Pride, 27-13, for their fourth straight win. The Bulls improved to 9-5 on the season.
Tristan Daugherty set the tone with a 17-6 major decision over Jacob Moon in the opening bout. He led 4-2 after the second period but was able to get five takedowns in the third to get the major.
Derek Spann followed with a 15-0 technical fall over Tyler Cymmerman at 133. Spann earn a takedown in the first and followed with three 4-point nearfalls. His riding time point secure the tech.
Ben Freeman needed extra time to defeat his opponent at 141. With his match against Justin Hoyle tied, 1-1, after regulation, Freeman earned a takedown to gain the sudden victory.
John Arceri followed with his first technical fall of the season. After taking a 2-0 lead after the first, Arceri followed with five second-period takedowns and added a 2-point near fall in the second to take command. He was able to secure the tech fall one minute into the third period.
Hunter Shaut earned a hard-fought 5-4 decision at 157. Leading 3-2 late, Shaut got a takedown with just 28 seconds left to hold off Joseph McGinty by a single point.
The Bulls got their second sudden victory courtesy of Noah Grover. The 165-pounder was tied with national-qualifier Ricky Stamm, 1-1, after regulation. Grover earned the takedown in overtime and the sudden victory.
Jay Nivison was impressive in his 14-5 major decision at 174. The redshirt-freshman led 5-2 after the second before getting three third-period takedowns to earn the major.
"We had a great road trip," head coach John Stutzman said. "We are performing at a high level and we're getting better at the right time."
The Bulls return to conference action next Sunday at Kent State.
