
Haynes Named MAC Representative for the NCAA Student-Athlete Leadership Forum

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Dante Haynes, a sprinter for the University at Buffalo track team, has been selected as the Mid-American Conference's male representative for the NCAA Student-Athlete Leadership Forum. Haynes will participate in the annual forum held in Houston, Texas on November 18-21, 2021.
Haynes has developed as his skills as a leader starting with his involvement in SAAC as a team representative. He has a strong set of values and uses his voice to advocate for equity, diversity, and inclusion not only for student-athletes, but for all. He is one of four students from the University at Buffalo serving on the President's Advisory Council on Race, which addresses issues pertaining to systemic inequality and racism.
"We are extremely fortunate to have Dante on our team, and we are very proud of his initiative and leadership he has provided for our team and department," stated cross country and track & field Head Coach Vicki Mitchell. "His selection to the NCAA Student-Athlete Leadership Forum is a great honor and he will serve the MAC with pride."
Haynes, a senior, is entering his fourth season as a sprinter. On the track he specializes in distances from 100 to 400-meter runs, and running the 4 x 100-meter and 4 x 400-meter relays for the team.
The NCAA Student-Athlete Leadership Forum engages a diverse and dynamic representation of student-athletes, coaches, faculty, and administrators. Student-athletes that are selected to attend return to their campuses with invaluable leadership skills, the experience of exploring the relationship between personal values, core beliefs and behavioral styles, and a thorough understanding of the NCAA as a while. Student-athletes also gain a deeper understanding of the role of SAAC.
The Leadership Forum was created in 1997 and has been a life-changing experience for more than 5,000 student-athletes.
