BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo's Brittney Beetcher has been nominated by the Mid-American Conference for the 2021 NCAA Woman of the Year award, the league office and the NCAA announced.
Beetcher, who was also honored by the NCAA with a postgraduate scholarship this spring, will now have her name forwarded to the NCAA Woman of the Year selection committee. It will choose the top 10 honorees in each division, then pull nine finalists, three from each division, before naming the 2021 NCAA Woman of the Year this fall.
Beetcher was Buffalo's nominee for the NCAA honor, and one of 535 women nationwide to be nominated. The award was then moved to the conference offices around the country, and 152 honorees were chosen for their achievements in the classroom, as a leader, in sports and in their community.
Beetcher led the UB swimming and diving program to its first Mid-American Conference championship in school history. She was named the MAC's Outstanding Senior, while taking home All-MAC First Team honors as well. Following the season, she was named to the league's All-Academic team and also earned the Clifford C. Furnas Award, the highest academic honored bestowed on a Buffalo student-athlete
Established in 1991, the NCAA Woman of the Year award recognizes graduating female college athletes who have exhausted their eligibility and distinguished themselves in academics, athletics, service, and leadership throughout their collegiate careers.
