
Swim & Dive Ramp Up for a Pair of Dual Meets

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo women's swimming and diving team (2-0, 1-0 MAC) is ramping up for a busy weekend. The Bulls will have a pair of dual meets in the state of Ohio, starting with Toledo (0-3, 0-3 MAC) on Friday at 4 p.m. The team will then travel to Bowling Green (1-2, 1-2 MAC) for a meet on Saturday with the first event starting at noon.
LAST MEETING
UB faced the Toledo Rockets and the Bowling Green Falcons last year in the regular season. UB defeated both squads as the Bulls trounced the Rockets for a 192-108 road victory. The Bulls hosted a quad meet against Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan and Cornell last season which was unscored. The last scored meet against Bowling Green came in the 2018-19 season where the Bulls won 176-117. UB is 4-13 all-time against the Rockets and 14-3 against the Falcons.
LAST TIME OUT
The Bulls were off for two weeks headed into this weekend where they last performed at the Akron Last Chance Invite. At the Akron Last Chance Invite, the Bulls set two school records along with an Olympic qualifying time. Katie Pollock broke her own school record in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:00.55. Nicole Roitenberg would break the school record in the 200 butterfly setting a new time of 1:58.46. Toni Naccarella had an exceptional invite as she would qualify for Olympic Trials as she swam a 25.91 in the 50-meter freestyle.
The Bulls had a dominant performance in the 400 IM as they finished first, third and fifth. Olivia Sapio claimed first in 4:16.98, Brittney Beetcher finished third in 4:20.61, as Jaidyn Wolfe finished in fifth with a time of 4:24.31.
T. Naccarella won the 100 freestyle in style as she improved her top-10 time in the event by nearly shaving a whole second off. She finished in 48.54 seconds as her previous best was 49.46 seconds.
Beetcher had a stellar performance in the 1,650 freestyle as she won in a time of 16:36.92, just four seconds off her personal-best and top-10 time.
Freshmen Maria Naccarella and van der Mast finished fourth and third in the 200 freestyle out of 24 swimmers, respectively. Naccarella finished in 1:51.54 as van der Mast finished in 1:49.83, both season-best times.
McDonough wasn't done for the Bulls as she finished third in the 200 backstroke in 1:58.22. McDonough improved her top-10 time of 1:58.58, she still ranks second in the event.
UB had three swimmers reach the finals in the 50 freestyle. T. Naccarella would take first in 22.67 seconds with fellow teammate Jillian Lawton finishing in second with a time of 22.67 seconds. Fisher had an admirable heat as she placed sixth in 23.53 seconds.
