
Bulls Dominate the UB Diving Invite

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo swimming & diving team (2-0, 1-0 MAC) hosted the UB Diving Invite held in the Alumni Arena Pool & Natatorium. The invite began on Friday morning where UB hosted five Mid-American Conference schools, Akron, Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan, Ohio and Toledo, for a total of 24 divers.
Day One Recap – 1-Meter Dive
The Bulls had three divers in action on Friday morning for the 1-meter dive. Of the 21 divers that participated, the top-12 made the finals. Victoria Franz, Louise Bradley and Journi Northorp all made the finals. After prelims, Northorp was in eighth-place with a score of 270.60, just one tenth behind Bradley for seventh-place. Franz locked second-place down with a score of 302.95. Bradley and Northorp had a tremendous finals performance as they improved their placement and scores. Northorp's score jumped 15.00 points for a fifth-place finish of 285.60 points. Bradley leaped to third-place with a score of 289.55. Franz stayed put for second-place with a score of 295.60.
Day Two Recap – 3-Meter Dive
Victoria Franz, Louise Bradley, Journi Northorp and Isobel Holcomb competed in the 3-meter dive on Saturday morning with Franz and Bradley making it to the heavily contested finals. With 23 total divers getting in on the action, Franz won both the prelims and the finals, handsomely. Franz scored a season-best score of 337.85 in the prelims with second place scoring 292.75. In the finals Franz scored a 336.90, winning by 5.60 points. Bradley was in sixth after the prelims with a score of 282.20 but finished in seventh with a finals score of 279.30. Holcomb saw her first action of the season as she scored a 227.75 in prelims for 17th-place. Northorp just missed out on the finals as she placed 14th with a score of 246.20.
Day Three Recap – Platform Dive
Journi Northorp, Louise Bradley and Victoria Franz competed in the platform dive on Sunday morning with a total of six divers staying for the entire UB Diving Invite. After prelims, Franz was in fifth-place (224.85), Northorp was in third-place (231.70) while Bradley was in second-place with a score of 240.60. The Bulls would step up their game as they would finish 1-2-3 in the finals. Northorp would win the platform finals narrowly beating out Bradley. Northorp scored 235.90, while Bradley scored 233.15. Franz would place third with a score of 229.70.
UP NEXT
The Bulls will return to action next weekend as they travel to Akron, Ohio for the Akron Last Chance Invite. The invite is set to start on Saturday, Feb. 27 and run through Sunday, Feb. 28 at the Oliver J. Ocasek Natatorium.
