BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo track and field team announced the signing of Cory Demo on Thursday morning. The program is excited about his national letter of intent as Demo will be competing for the Bulls cross country and track & field distance squads starting in the 2021-22 campaign. Demo will be majoring in engineering during his time at UB as he joins signees Josh Forrest and Fernando Sanchez for men's middle distance.
Demo comes from Beaver River High School in Beaver Falls, N.Y. with a limited but impressive resume. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, his last formal track season was his sophomore high school season, where he first earned the attention of UB's Men's Distance Coach Todd Witzleben. He ran a 4:20.25 in the 1,600-meter at the New York State Championships. Demo followed that with an impressive junior year of cross country where he placed third at the New York State Championships in 2019. One of Demo's strengths is his commitment to his training.
"Cory has worked very hard throughout the pandemic to improve his endurance," stated Witzleben. "His 4:20 mark in the 1,600-meter as a sophomore earned our attention, but his 15:19.80 in the 5,000-meter at the Garden State Track Club Meet 5k in October shows the range that will make him a valuable contributor to our program in the future."
