BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's basketball team concludes non-conference play with a contest at Bucknell on Monday evening. Tipoff from Sojka Pavilion is set for 5pm. It is the first meeting between the two teams since 2012. The Bulls own a narrow 7-5 all-time series advantage.
The game will be streamed on ESPN+ with Joe Vasile announcing and can be heard on the radio on ESPN 1520AM or on the Varsity Network with Matt Mattia on the call.
Buffalo saw its five-game win streak come to an end as the Bulls fought hard for 45 minutes but came up just short in a 79-77 overtime loss at Princeton on Tuesday. Redshirt fifth year forward Summer Hemphill made a pair of free throws with one second left in regulation to tie the game at 66 and force overtime but costly turnovers and poor shooting at the free throw line proved to be the difference as the Bulls shot just 2-of-6 from the charity stripe while the Tigers converted 7-of-10 free throw attempts in the extra period. Junior guard Dyaisha Fair led all scorers with 31 points, including five three-pointers, to go with seven rebounds, three assists and two steals. Sophomore Cheyenne McEvans scored a season-high 16 points, freshman Georgia Woolley scored in double figures for the fourth straight game with 14 points and Hemphill added 12 points. The Bulls are ranked 43rd in the latest NET rankings, the highest of any MAC schools.
Bucknell enters Monday's contest with an 8-2 overall record after defeating George Mason 77-67 on Saturday. The Bison are led offensively by Taylor O'Brien who is averaging 18.4 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. Carly Krsul (11.1 ppg, 6.9 rpg) and Cecelia Collins (11.0 ppg, 4.0 rpg) are also averaging in double figures. Bucknell has held all but two opponents under 60 points this season. The Bison lead the Patriot League and rank 46th in the nation in scoring defense (55.0). The Bison are 78-8 at Sojka Pavilion since the start of the 2015-16 season. Bucknell has lost just one game at home in each of the last three seasons.
Up next, Buffalo will have a week off for the holiday break before opening Mid-American Conference play against Central Michigan on Wednesday, December 29 at Alumni Arena at 1pm. It is the first game of a doubleheader with the UB men's team.
The game will be streamed on ESPN+ with Joe Vasile announcing and can be heard on the radio on ESPN 1520AM or on the Varsity Network with Matt Mattia on the call.
