BUFFALO, NY - The Bulls will hit the Alumni Arena floor for the first this season on Saturday afternoon as the Bulls host Rider in the campus game of the Cancun Challenge. Opening in 1982, this will mark the 40th season of basketball in Alumni Arena. UB is 26-13 in home openers in this building that opened on Dec. 4, 1982.
Buffalo is 1-1 on the season following road contests at nationally-ranked Michigan and a 69-66 win at defending Conference USA champion, North Texas. Senior Maceo Jack led the Bulls with 18 points, including 4-for-8 from three-point range. Josh Mballa had his first double-double of the year with 17 points and 10 boards.
Rider is already playing its fifth game of the season and is 2-2 on the year following an 81-74 loss at Bucknell on Wednesday night. Senior Dwight Murray Jr. led the Broncs with 30 points and 13 rebounds in the game at Bucknell and is their leading scorer at 19.3 points per game.
Rider leads the all-time series 2-1, but the two teams have not met since Feb. 1, 1992. Former Buffalo assistant coach Donyell Marshall, who helped guide Buffalo to the 2015-16 MAC Championship and then became a head coach, was an assistant at Rider for two seasons before moving to Buffalo.
Fans heading to Saturday's game will need to show proof of vaccination. A vaccination card, a photo of a vaccination card, an Excelsior Pass or a digital vaccine card are all acceptable. Attendees should be prepared to show photo ID, as well. Those without proof will be turned away. Those with an exemption also will not be allowed into the arena. Masks are requried to be worn inside of Alumni Arena.
