FAIRFAX, VA – The University at Buffalo softball team dropped a pitcher's duel to George Mason, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon at the George Mason Softball Complex.
Freshman Alexis Lucyshyn was wheeling and dealing early and often as she didn't allow a George Mason baserunner until the bottom of the fourth inning and didn't allow a hit until the sixth.
Buffalo threatened in the top of the fifth as Anna Aguon singled and looked to get into scoring position but she was thrown out at second to end the two-out rally.
George Mason looked to get on the scoreboard in the bottom of the inning, taking advantage of a walk and a UB error, but Lucyshyn came up big once again with a strikeout to end the inning and escape the jam.
The Patriots would break the scoring drought in the bottom of the sixth inning on an RBI single to take a 1-0 lead and that would be all they would need as the Bulls were retired in order in the top of the seventh to end the game.
Lucyshyn had a solid performance in the circle, allowing just one run on two hits while striking out a career-best seven batters to just three walks in six innings of work. Aguon led the Bulls at the plate going 2-for-3 on the afternoon.
Buffalo returns to action March 13-15 as the travel to Madeira Beach, FL to take part in The Spring Games.
