COLORADO SPRINGS, CO - The National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) is proud to announce volleyball's Rachel Sanks and men's basketball's Davonta Jordan as 2020 All-American Athlete Award recipients. This award recognizes athletic accomplishments and their dedication to strength and conditioning. Nominated by Sean Conaty, Director of Sports Performance for Olympic sports at the University at Buffalo, the determination of Sanks and Jordan to improve in athletics while maintaining academic prominence is a great model for all student-athletes at UB.
"Rachel raised the standard for the entire volleyball team in the weight-room," said Conaty. "She recorded the highest vertical jump on the team and showed other athletes what is possible with commitment to training. She always had a strong interest in the training process and would constantly want to know the "why" behind what we were doing. This passion has led her into pursuing a career in Strength & Conditioning. Her collegiate volleyball and strength and conditioning experience, as well as her leadership and communication skills, make the perfect foundation for her to go out and have a successful career."
"Davonta was known as a vocal leader on the court," said Conaty. "What people didn't see behind the scenes was that he was the exact same leader in the weight-room as well. His energy and effort was contagious, and he made everyone around him better. Davonta approached the weight-room like a professional and took care of his body all year long. He honed in on not just training, but recovery, sleep, and nutrition as well. We are truly going to miss Davonta's leadership."
"We are proud to have Coach Sean Conaty join the NSCA in its mission to safely improve athletic performance," says Eric McMahon, NSCA's Coaching Program Manager, "Supporting our student-athletes like Rachel Sanks and Davonta Jordan guarantees a stronger future for the NSCA."
