
Bulls Claim 12 Medals at MAC Indoor Championships

AKRON, Ohio – The University at Buffalo track and field teams competed at the 2020 Mid-American Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship held in Akron, Ohio this weekend. The teams combined to take home 12 medals. The men's team finished in fourth place with a total of 77.5 points as the women's team finished in 10th place with 24 points.
The men's jumps team had a great weekend as they took home three medals. Sophomore Shevaughn Allen leaped to a new personal-best distance of 7.41 meters in the long jump where he earned the silver medal. This distance moves him to fourth in UB's all-time results. He finished .17 meters behind the eventual champion from Eastern Michigan. Allen wasn't done as he would go on to claim gold in the triple jump and remain undefeated in the event this season. He jumped a distance of 15.82 meters. Nakia Williams, Jr. finished in third in the high jump as he reached a height of 2.06 meters.
The defending 800-meter dash champion, senior Leon Atkins, took home the silver medal as he crossed the line in a time of 1:51.42.
Thomas Flannery and Benjamin Cardamone finished second and third in the 3000-meter run. Flannery took home the silver medal as he finished in 8:19.31. Cardamone finished in 8:23.67 as he took home bronze.
Selina Von Jackowski finished in second place to take home the silver medal in the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 8.44 seconds. On the men's side, Anthony Clark claimed bronze in the 60-meter hurdles as he crossed the finish line in 8.13 seconds.
The highlight of the championships was the men's distance medley relay that took gold for the first time since the 2015 championships. The Bulls stampeded to a gold medal finish behind the valiant runs by Cal Puskar, Gyasi Morris, Christopher Nowak and Leon Atkins crossed the line in 9:55.90. The race was tight from start to finish as UB finished just .08 seconds before runner-up Kent State. Their time was almost five seconds better than their previous championship time.
Seven Bulls earned All-MAC honors at this year's championships. Shevaughn Allen, Gyasi Morris, Christopher Nowak, Cal Puskar and Leon Atkins earned Men's All-MAC First Team honors. Thomas Flannery was named to the Men's All-MAC Second Team while Selina Von Jackowski earned Women's All-MAC First Team honors.

Depending on other conference championship results, some Bulls will be headed to Albuquerque, N.M. for the NCAA Indoor Championships. The indoor championships run from Friday, March 13 through Saturday, March 14.
