BUFFALO, NY – Director of Track and Field & Cross Country Vicki Mitchell is excited to announce the signing of high school standout Calvin Finger from Gates Chili High School. Calvin is the 2020 New York State Indoor T&F Silver Medalist in the High Jump with a personal best mark of 6'6".
Like most high school students in NYS, Calvin's 2020 Outdoor T&F season was canceled due to COVID-19, but his progression in the high jump along with horizontal jumps has been impressive and point to a very bright future. As a high school senior, he is ranked one of the top high jumpers in New York State.
Assistant coach Nick Collins stated, "I'm excited about Calvin's potential, he's a great fit for our school and our team, I see him contributing to our strong tradition in the high jump!"
A strong academic student, Calvin is a standout in the classroom as well and will be majoring in electrical engineering. Calvin comes from an athletic family, with his father a former competitive high jumper. In addition, one of his high school coaches, Coach Patrick Tindal, is a University at Buffalo graduate and former T&F stand-out for the Bulls.
Calvin will join fellow Section V jumper, Brandon Burke, who has the UB School Record of 7'2.5" and is the defending Outdoor Mid-American Conference High Jump Champion.
Mitchell said this in regard to the signing of Finger, "I know Calvin will be a great addition to the Bulls. He has the focus and passion of a champion and will excel in both the classroom and on the track."
