BUFFALO, NY – It was a tough test for the University at Buffalo wrestling team as it hosted fourth-ranked Wisconsin in its home opener on Thursday night. Dubbed "Mayhem on the Mainstage," the Bulls dropped the bout, 33-3, to the Badgers at the main stage theater at the UB Center for the Arts.
Entering the match, Wisconsin had five wrestlers ranked in the top 20, including three in the top five and all five put on dominant performances.
The highlight of the night for the Bulls was the performance of Sam Schuyler in the 197 lb. match. The redshirt-sophomore had a pair of takedowns and an escape to earn a 5-1 decision over Taylor Watkins.
"I'd like to thank everyone for coming out and especially thank the set up crew," head coach John Stutzman said. "It's not the start we wanted, but with a young team, we will get better and improve."
The Bulls will next travel to Albany for duals against Purdue and LIU on Saturday.
