
Buffalo Opens Up with a Strong Showing at Their Opening Quad-Team Meet

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's swimming and diving team opened their 2019-20 campaign on Saturday afternoon as they hosted Cornell and MAC foes Bowling Green and Eastern Michigan.
The Bulls started off the day strong as they swept the top-three spots in the 200 yard freestyle relay. First place was Jillian Lawton, Katie Burns, Antonia Naccarella and Andrea Ernst in 1:33.84. Second place was Elinor Duley, Olivia Sapio, Katie Pollock and Jenna Krull in a time of 1:36.17. Finishing in third place with a time of 1:37.93 was Sydnie Sovinsky, Allie Stockwell, Anna Vitolins, and Maddy Rogan.
In the 400 yard medley relay, Nicole Roitenberg, Jillian Lawton, Jenna Krull and Antonia Naccarella finished in first place in an impressive time of 3:50.03.
Roitenberg wasn't done for the day as she helped lead her teammates to a first place finish in the 200 yard medley relay. Andrea Ernst, Katie Pollock and Katie Burns helped the Bulls to the first place finish in a time of 1:45.97.
To top off the afternoon, the Bulls claimed first place in the 400 yard freestyle relay with the efforts from Brittney Breetcher, Andrea Ernst, Jillian Lawton and Olivia Sapio in a time of 3:29.97.
"I was very pleased," stated Head Coach Andy Bashor. "The energy they brought from the beginning of the meet all the way through, that is something we talk about and it was great to see. We went out there and raced, we competed. It was really good to see in the first meet of the year."
In the diving events, the Bulls took home first place in both the 1-meter and 3-meter events. Highlighting the diving events was Victoria Franz who took home first place in the 1-meter dive with a score of 286.35 and second place in the 3-meter dive while scoring a 271.70. In her first collegiate meet, she qualified for the NCAA Diving Zones. Finishing in first in the 3-meter dive was Journi Northorp with a score of 283.10.
The Bulls' next meet is Saturday, Oct. 26 at noon as they will square off against MAC opponent Ball State at the Alumni Arena Natatorium.
