
UB Athletics Mourns The Passing Of Sal Esposito

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo Division of Athletics mourns the passing of former administrator and long-time supporter Dr. Salvatore R. Esposito.
Esposito, a former Chairman of the Department of Recreation, Athletics and Related Instruction and soccer coach at UB, passed away on Oct. 11, 2019.
Esposito is second all-time in wins at Buffalo with 108 victories in 16 seasons of coaching, finishing with a winning percentage of .506.
Esposito was appointed head coach of the soccer program in 1973 after completing his doctorate degree at the University of Southern Mississippi. In 1976, Esposito was first named chairman of the new Department of Recreation, Athletics and Related Instruction. He also was an assistant dean in the Division of Undergraduate Education.
Esposito, who also spent time as Associate Director of Event and Facilities, competed at West Chester State College as an active sportsman before earning his degree from the University of North Carolina.
Prior to his time at UB, he coached three varsity sports at the intercollegiate level, an assistant coach of soccer and head lacrosse coach at North Carolina, assistant wrestling coach at the University of Maryland and head soccer coach at American University. He also served as a physical education instructor at both UNC and Maryland and director of physical education at American.
Before his college teaching and coaching assignments, Esposito taught and coached basketball and soccer at Wall Township (NJ) and Oxford (PA) Area High School.
