UB Athletics Reports Record-Setting Giving Day

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo Athletics Department reported a record-breaking Giving Day on Thursday. The department raised over $145,000 in total gifts – the highest in department history.
"We are incredibly grateful for the record support we received during this year's Giving Day," Vice President and Director of Athletics Mark Alnutt said. "The generosity of our donors is instrumental in strengthening our department and enhancing the experience for our student-athletes."
In total, over 550 donors gave this year, surpassing the previous high of 316 donors in 2025. The wrestling team led the way with 171 donors, followed by football (115) and track & field/cross country (100).
New this year, UB Football Head Coach Pete Lembo and his wife, Jen, issued a Giving Day challenge and matched the first $10,000 in gifts to the Football Excellence Fund.
The $145,000 raised over the last two days easily surpassed the previous record of $99,357 raised last year.
