Long Beach State Powers Past Softball In Five Innings

LAS VEGAS, NV – The University at Buffalo softball team (1-7, 0-0 MAC) fell in the final day of the Marucci Desert Classic hosted by UNLV to Long Beach State on Sunday afternoon by the score of 23-1 in five innings. With the loss, the Bulls fall to 1-7 on the season while Long Beach State improves to 8-1 overall.
Long Beach State never let the Bulls get in the game on Sunday as they scored at least two runs in all five innings en route to their 22 run defeat.
The Beach opened up the game scoring three runs in the top of the first inning before exploding for their biggest inning of the game in the second as they scored seven runs to take the commanding 10-0 lead over the Bulls.
After the Beach put up five more runs in the top of the third to take the 15-0 lead, UB was able to strike for their lone run of the game as Leandra Jew earned a walk to open the inning and moved over to third after a wild pitch and a ground out. Danielle Lallos then dug in and delivered a RBI single to third base, cutting the LBSU lead to 15-1.
The Long Beach State offense didn't slow down in the fourth inning as they put up six more runs before closing out the game in the fifth with another two runs to secure the huge 23-1 victory over the Bulls.
Lallos was the lone UB batter to collect a RBI as she finished the game going 1-for-3 with her fourth RBI of the season. Jenelle Martinez and Jessica Goldyn each notched a hit in the loss to the Beach.
Buffalo will return to the diamond next weekend as they head down to Virginia to participate in a tournament hosted by Hampton. UB will be in action on Friday at 12:00 pm as they will take on Youngstown State.
