
Bulls Fall Just Short Against Big 12 Foe West Virginia, 4-3

WILLIAMSVILLE, NY – The University at Buffalo women's tennis team lost four of six matches in singles as the Bulls lost their first match of the season, 4-3, against West Virginia of the Big 12.
The Bulls opened the afternoon with a pair of wins at doubles to take the early 1-0 lead. The number one team of Tanja Stojanovska and Margarita Kotok picked up a 6-3 victory while the number two team of Chantal Martinez Blanco and Anna Savchenko won 6-4.
In singles action, it was Martinez Blanco and Savchenko that came away with victories. Savchenko won at six as her opponent was forced to retire in the third set, while Martinez Blanco had a straight sets win at two, 6-4, 6-4. The match came down to first singles where the Bulls fell in a tough third-set tiebreaker.
The Bulls will hit the road on Saturday when they face Syracuse at 11:00 am.
