BUFFALO, NY – Junior Savanna Norcio has been named to the NFCA Mideast All-Region Second Team, the association announced on Thursday afternoon. Norcio was placed in the DP or Utility/Non-Pitcher Spot as she spent time this season at numerous position. UB has now put at least one player on the NFCA All-Region Team in three straight years, just the second time in school history that has happened.
Last week Norcio was named to the All-MAC First Team as she led the Bulls offensively this season, hitting .382 for the year including .403 in Mid-American Conference Play. Norcio's batting average is the fourth highest in school history for a single season and her 17 doubles this year are the third most. She had three-hit games three times this season and finished with 18 multi-hit games. Through three season, Norcio is now has a career batting average of .347 and her 30 doubles are already tied for sixth in school history.
"I am so proud of her and this is a great honor for Savanna and the University at Buffalo softball program," said head coach Trena Peel. "I'm happy that Savanna's hard work is continuing to be recognized on a national level."
Norcio becomes the first NFCA Second Team selection for the Bulls since Mary Russell in 2008 and the fourth UB player overall to make the second team. Last season, Alexis Curtiss was named to the All-Region First Team and in 2014, current assistant coach Holly Luciano was named to the All-Region Third Team.
