
NJIT Defeats Bulls, 4-3, in Tight Match

NEWARK, NJ – UB men's tennis started off strong in their match against NJIT by winning point at doubles. However, the Bulls couldn't carry over the momentum to their singles matches and fell, 4-3, in a tight match.
Amar Hromic and Pablo Alvarez continued their hot play with a 7-6 win over NJIT's Schultz and Hall. In No. 2 doubles Noah Hajdu-Andersson and Akhil Mehta won 6-1, while Sergio Arevalillo and Ethan Nittolo were also victorious, 6-4.
Alvarez won his seventh-straight singles match of the Spring season. He defeated Andres Alban, 7-6, 6-3. The other Bulls' singles point came at No. 5 singles where Mehta came away with an 7-6, 7-5, victory.
Nittolo lost the first set, 6-1, but stormed back with a strong second set, 6-2. In a close third set, Nittolo wasn't able to come back and fell, 6-4.
Overall, the Bulls faced tough competition from NJIT and was not able to come away in the closely contested match.
"Coming in we knew how good NJIT is, and they showed it today," head coach Lee Nickell said after Saturday's loss. "We struggled to adjust to the pace of their hitting early in singles and couldn't quite catch up to the balls. We have a quick turnaround and another opportunity tomorrow. We will have to regroup and be ready to go against Princeton."
UB is back in action tomorrow when they face nationally-ranked Princeton University at 3:00 pm.
