UB Men's Tennis Defeats Bryant, 5-2

HANOVER, NH - UB men's tennis wrapped up their first weekend of the 2016 Spring season with win over defending NEC champions Bryant, 5-2. The match was played at Dartmouth University a day after nationally ranked Dartmouth beat both teams. On the day the Bulls won two doubles matches and four singles matches.
In No. 1 doubles action Amar Hromic and Pablo Alvarez defeated Vogt/Lorenz, 7-5, while Noah Hajdu-Andersson and Akhil Mehta won No. 3 doubles, 6-2, over Jakubowski/Lamart Sergio Arevalillo and Ethan Nittolo lost their No. 2 doubles match to Welsh/M. Plutt, 6-7.
The same four UB tennis players went on to win their respective singles matches. Hromic beat Vogt, 7-5, 6-4. Alvarez got past Welsh in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. After losing the first set 6-1, Nittolo came back to win over Lorenz in a three-set thriller, 1-6, 6-3, 6-4. Arevalillo won the first set before dropping the second set to M. Plutt. The third set saw UB prevail with Arevalillo winning the match with third-set score of 10-5. Arevalillo earned a point for the Bulls with a 7-6, 4-6, 10-5 result.
Artur Culicovschi saw his first action as a member for the UB men's tennis team. He won the first set 6-4, before losing the second set, 5-7, and dropped the third set, 6-10. Akhil Mehta lost to Jakubowski in straight sets, 4-6, 4-6.
"I am proud of our guys for beating such a well coached team like Bryant," head coach Lee Nickell said. "We had to fight through injury and had to play Artur a few weeks earlier than expected, but everyone competed their hardest to get the victory. We have to get healthy this week as we face a possible top 25 team in Cornell."
