
Bulls Fall To Western Michigan, 8-5

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo, The State University of New York, softball team committed five errors as the Bulls lost the series opener to Western Michigan, 8-5. The Bulls and Broncos will conclude the regular season tomorrow afternoon.
Western Michigan got on the board first as it scored three runs in the top of the first inning and continued to hold a 3-0 advantage into the bottom of the third when the Bulls scored five runs.
Senior Nora McGuire opened the inning with her first career extra base hit, a double to left center, and she advanced to third on a throwing error from center field. McGuire then came in to score as freshman Leandra Jew reached on a fielding error. The Bulls would go on to load the bases for freshman Danielle Lallos, who drove in a pair with a single to right field and senior Karly Nevez followed up with another two-run single, giving the Bulls a 5-3 lead through three innings.
The Broncos tied the game back up in the top of the fourth as they scored two runs on a throwing error and took the lead in the fifth as another UB error scored the go ahead run. Western Michigan tacked on two more in the seventh.
"We shot ourselves in the foot again today with five errors," said head coach Trena Peel. "We outhit them and put up 10 hits and anytime you have double figures in hits you should be able to win a game. If we can clean up our defense tomorrow than we will have a good chance to end the season on a positive note."
Redshirt sophomore Bobbi Langlois picked up the loss for the Bulls, while Anissa Sanchez got the win for Western Michigan in relief.
The Bulls outhit Western Michigan, 10-8, led by a 2-for-3 performance from Savanna Norcio, who's only out was a long fly ball to the warning track. Every player in the UB starting lineup recorded at least one hit, including senior Alexis Curtiss who recorded her 197th career base hit, tying Breanne Nasti for the school record.
The Bulls will close out the year vs. Western Michigan at 1:00 pm tomorrow. Senior Day festivities will begin at 12:30 pm and UB will recognize Devon Rodriguez, Stephanie Beuther, Hayley Barrow, Nora McGuire, Karly Nevez and Alexis Curtiss.
