TOLEDO, OH – The University at Buffalo, State University of New York men's tennis team edged Mid-American Conference opponent and host Toledo, 4-3, Sunday afternoon at the UT Varsity Tennis Courts.
"It feels good to get a victory after this month long drought," said sixth-year head coach Lee Nickell. "I am very proud of the guys stepping up and winning our first outdoor match of the season. The doubles point was crucial and we did a good job of winning the tight points to get the victory."
The Bulls (9-9, 1-2 MAC) claimed the doubles point and went on to win three singles matches to take the match from the Rockets (11-15, 1-3 MAC).
Sophomore Jonathan Hannestad and junior Sergio Arevalillo picked up a 6-3 victory at first doubles and juniors Amar Hromic and Pablo Alvarez added a 7-6 win over the Rockets at the second spot.
Senior Sebastian Ionescu defeated Nicky Wong in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2, at third singles to lead the Bulls. Hromic chipped in a 6-2, 6-3 win at five against Stephen Miller and Arevalillo blanked Garrett Cona, 6-2, 6-2, at sixth singles.
