
Bulls Go 0-2 During First Day Of Black And Orange Challenge

MACON, GA – The University at Buffalo, The State University of New York, softball team dropped a pair of games on Friday during the first day of the Black and Orange Challenge, hosted by Mercer. UB lost the opener to Kennesaw State, 9-4, and then fell to the host Bears, 8-1.
The Bulls dropped the weekend opener to Kennesaw State, 9-4, as UB was unable to overcome a five-run first inning for the Owls. Kennesaw St. increased its lead to 6-0 before the Bulls got on the board in the bottom of the fourth. Sophomore Savanna Norcio opened the inning with a single through the left side and then came in to score as senior Hayley Barrow hit a two-run home run to center field.
The Owls increased their lead to 9-2 with two runs in the fifth and another in the top of the seventh before UB was able to score two more runs in the last inning. Senior Alexis Curtiss hit a two out double to center field to score fellow senior Karly Nevez, while Barrow picked up her third RBI of the game with a single through the left side, scoring Curtiss.
UB finished with eight hits in the contest, but again struggled in the field, as the Bulls committed six errors. Curtiss, Barrow, and sophomore Ashton Earnhardt each had two-hit games for UB. Redshirt sophomore Bobbi Langlois picked up the loss as she went the distance, allowing 10 hits and seven earned runs.
In the second game, UB got out to a 1-0 lead in the contest as Curtiss opened the game with a double. Curtiss came in to score on a fielding error by Mercer. The Bears tied the game up in the bottom of the first and broke the game open with five runs in the bottom of the third, while adding runs in the fifth in the sixth.
Curtiss finished with two of the three hits for UB as she also singled in the sixth. Nevez had the other hit in the game. Barrow picked up the loss as she went 3.0 innings and allowed six runs, although just three of those were earned. Freshman Charlotte Miller pitched the final three innings and allowed two runs.
UB returns to action tomorrow as it faces the same two teams, beginning with Kennesaw St. at 12:15 pm and finishing up with Mercer at 4:45 pm.
