
Joanna Smith Named MAC East Co-Player Of The Week

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo, the State University of New York women's basketball junior guard Joanna Smith was named Co-MAC East Player of the Week after the Bulls perfect 3-0 week, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday. This marks the first time in Smith's career that she has earned the weekly praise.
Smith was exceptional for the Bulls all week long as she averaged a team-best 19.0 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game over the Bulls unbeaten week. The junior exploded for a career-high 26 points on 10-18 from the floor and 4-7 from behind the arc against Clemson from the ACC on Sunday as the Bulls downed the Tigers 61-51. Smith was unstoppable against the Tigers as she recorded 14 second quarter points en route to her career-high scoring output.
She started off the week with a 17-point effort against the Cornell Big Red while also grabbing seven rebounds in 30 minutes of action. The Southaven, MS native had an off night shooting on Saturday in the Bulls win over Central Florida but she was still able to produce 14 points, five rebounds and a season-high four helpers.
On the year, Smith ranks ninth in the MAC in scoring (17.0 PPG) while also grabbing 5.8 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game. Smith has helped the Bulls earn their first 6-0 start to the season since 2000-01 while scoring in double figures in 10 of her last 12 games, dating back to last season.
UB aims to stay unbeaten as they travel to take on Hofstra on Thursday at 7:00 pm before returning home to Alumni Arena for a matchup with Duquesne on Sunday at 2:00 pm.
