NEW HAVEN, CT – The University at Buffalo, State University of New York men's tennis team was edged by host Yale, 4-3, Saturday afternoon at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center.
"The doubles point proved crucial today," stated head coach Lee Nickell. "We can't expect to beat teams like Yale without closing out doubles. We played well in singles and are making progress, but we aren't satisfied."
UB dropped all three doubles matches with junior Sergio Arevalillo and sophomore Jonathan Hannestad battling to a 7-6 loss in the number two spot.
Junior Pablo Alvarez picked up a convincing 6-4, 6-4 win at second singles over 95th-ranked Ziqi Wang. Senior Sebastian Ionescu blanked Bulldog Daniel Faierman, 6-0, 6-2, at third singles, while Arevalillo added a 6-4, 6-3 win over Alex Hagermoser at the number five spot.
