Bulls Pick Up 6-1 Road Victory At Northern Illinois

ROCKFORD, IL - The University at Buffalo women's tennis team picked up its 11th win of the season on Saturday evening as the Bulls defeated Northern Illinois, 6-1. The victory improved the Bulls to 11-3 on the season and 2-1 in conference play.
UB continued its strong play in doubles as the Bulls swept the three contests. UB's first team of Tanvi Shah and Miranda Podlas had no trouble winning their match with an 8-1 victory. At second doubles, Marta Stoyanova and Anamaria Candanoza finished with an identical 8-1 victory, while Margarita Kotok and Laura Holterbosch remained perfect with an 8-3 victory at three.
The Bulls took five of the six matches in singles beginning with a Stoyanova victory at sixth singles, 6-1, 6-0. Podlas gave the Bulls a 3-0 lead in the match as she finished with an easy 6-1, 6-1 victory, while Kotok clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-3 victory at fourth singles. Candanoza had a 6-1, 6-1 victory at fifth singles, while Shah overcame a first-set loss to win at first singles, 3-6, 6-2, 10-8. The Huskies won their lone match at third singles.
"This was an outstanding team victory," said head coach Kristen Maines. "We were disciplined from start to finish and had a great balance of consistency and aggressiveness. This is what we have been working on all season and today the results showed."
The Bulls will return home next weekend for the final time in 2014 beginning on Friday against Miami (OH) at 1:00 pm. The Bulls will have Senior Day on Saturday against Ball State.
